Annually on October 16th a global campaign called ‘Restart a Heart’ kicks into gear. The aim is to equip as many people as possible with the skills and confidence to respond to a heart attack or cardiac arrest. A person having a cardiac arrest in the community needs CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) within minutes. This is why equipping as many people within the community as possible is so important.
More and more people are learning the skills. More and more AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) are being place in community locations. And more and more….. lives are being saved.
To play our part we are running several ‘Family and Friends’ programs over the course of the 16th October in our own community, Carlingford in Co. Louth. This is simple, to the point CPR training designed by the American Heart Association. It takes just two hours and you’ll come out feeling equipped and confident in an emergency event at home or in the community.
100% of the €20 fee will go towards the purchase of an AED to be kept at The Foy Centre, Carlingford, Co. Louth. Both The Foy Centre and Carlingford National School will have the AED available in the case of a cardiac emergency. It’s an essential lifesaving piece of equipment placed in a core social area within our community.
